A recent commission that i'm pretty happy with! I like how she came oout. I've been haveing a lot of fun doing booty shots lately, haha, my butt is super flat, so i'm living vicariously through my drawings<3>This commission was done for Joshua Shepherd
The second commission is of Marielouve's character Tyra. I've seen a lot of other really great artists draw this character, so i was happy to take part in this!

New work: Boston Derby Dames
i did this for the Boston Derby Dames, for posters and such. I think they're only going to use the girl, and not the background, but i wanted to make it look all nice and stuff. Hope it looks ok! it's one of my only 100% digital pieces, ooh lala.

Some big news for me lately is that i'm going to be in a show, with a bunch of amazing artists! I'm so honored to be a part of this show, since so many people involved have inspired me for some time! I owe HUGE thanks to Mr. Craig Harris for asking me to be part of the first show from the Nomad Gallery! (please check out his work, his girls make me drool!) If you're in the LA area on the 19th of September, stop by! buy prints! Have fun! (also i have three signed framed prints that you can buy there, nudge nudge)
Also! there are a few spots left for $20.00 commissions, this is my first one for Seth. If you like what you see email me, there's open slots my friends! <3

The Ruby Mockingbird!
A gift for my very good friend Molly Brewer. It's her character Rian Ainsley, who i adore because she always looks like she having a good time! I'm jealous of her! And, whee! i drew my own crappy patterns on this one!

Skunky and Co.
Just a quick one i did of Skunky in her plain clothes, holding a skunk. Get it? Huh huh? But i really had fun with her expression. I don't know if the purple comes off as stink lines? it's supposed to be skunk funk, but i don't think people are seeing it as that. Haha, oh well. Stink lines, that's what that is.
I'm trying to get a lot of work done now, to make sure that i at least i stay productive. I'm working now, and if the job isn't in the art industry, at least i can try as hard as i can to work on my art to make up for that. (i work at a pediatricians office...wtf?) Plus i will be going to three conventions in october (baltimore, NY and boston) and i want to make sure that i'm more than prepared for them!

Phoenix, odds & ends
My sister's favorite character, i have been meaning to do this for a while for her, and i'm glad i did. I'm a DC girl at heart, and in truth i don't really know a lot about her, (don't hate me!) but Jill is a huge fan. Anyway i had a lot of fun drawing her. The flames are the first thing i've ever attempted to draw using a tablet, but it was a good time, so no complaints, right? I figure i have wasted too much time trying to get these big wispy psychedelic swirls to look exact using ink and markers. It's good to know it's a hell of a lot easier this way!
Anyway, my original sketch: (along side some anonymous gypsy girl character i was doodling)
And just for fun a few other thing's i have been trying to work out in the nest few weeks, odds and ends, a viking (OMG a dude!) a Russian spy and quick poses (please excuse the bad scans, you know, wire-bound sketchbooks and all that good stuff.)

My first commission! Part One
I hear Immigrant Song every time i look at this one, haha
My first commission, for a crazy good artist who really shouldn't have paid me for this! Anyway i was trying to test out new things, and get out of my comfort zone, so i did the BG entirely in photoshop. I had a lot of fun with this, and i learned a lot, which is always good. It took forever and a day, but i'm happy with the outcome! I'm channeling my inner Frank Frazetta here.
There's a second part of this commission, and (dare i say) I'll have to draw a dude! let's see how i handle it...

Some art trades and things
I was working on this art trade earlier, It's Ginger from Alex Riegel's comic Battery Acid. Again, what a fun character to draw! i had some problem with her legs, which sucks cause i think "what's the point of drawing sexy girls when you can't get the anatomy right" i struggle with that. But anyway she's super bad-ass and sexy, so i had a good time!
Also,
I did this pinup for a comic, Paranoid Rock n Roll, created by Tristan Wilder. I had a lot of fun drawing his characters! I was trying to play around with halftone patterns on this one, i don't know how successful i was, but it was something different, i hope to do more with it sometime soon. Oh, and i drew a dude! he kind of sucks, but i tried! i hope to learn how to draw men this summer, cause it's holding me back.

Beatriz Valentina, The Fortune Teller
this is the last piece for my senior portfolio, the fortune teller. I really tried to sink my teeth into the background for this one, and i'm not sure how successful i was with it. I guess i'm proud that i tried, haha. I think this may be the worst drawing of a chaise lounge in recorded history though. Oh well, i went through a lot of versions of this piece, and a lot of versions of Beatriz.
I have always had a difficult time trying to translate my sketches into finished pieces, cause i always ending up liking my sketches so much more, they have so much more life to them. Something that i'm lacking in my finishes. (A) is my first skecth for Beatriz, it's not perfect but i like the shapes i'm working with. Then i light tabled all the life out of it which is (B) this is probably the 6th or 7th one down the line, and i think i really lost so much from the first sketch. I was so frustrated that i scrapped it entirely and went back to the original sketch, from the i got (C) which i think is not perfect but i like this stylization much better. I guess i learned that sometimes it helps to get a new perspective on things when you're feeling irritated with a piece!
I admit, i cheated on the background a little bit and used the same curtains from my "Rat Trainer" piece, oh well. I'm burnt out on drawing curtains! So in classic tracy lee quinn style, i slapped a wallpaper on there because i'm very lazy. Oh well, i'm ok with how it came out.
This piece is my farewell to the Art Institute of Boston! <3>

Goldie and Ruby LaPearl
Goldie LaPearl, ventriloquist extraordinaire!
Part three of my "Tracy Quinn's Girlie Circus Project" the dummy, Ruby, is the ring leader for the circus, and Goldie her faithful side-kick.
i've been spending so much time printing my portfolio, creating promo items, and organizing everything for my senior juries, that i've slacked off a bit on my art, so i sat down tonight and finished this! Hopefully i will have more to write once May comes along and i have more time!

New Work!
I love posting my process, but right now with school and everything i just don't have the time to scan everything. So i'm just going to post my two newest pieces as it.
This is the final member of the Ladybirds, The Cardinal. I had fun taking headlines from the newspaper and thinking "The Cardinal was behind this!" she's a toughie, i like her
The second one is for another project i'm working on for my portfolio class. It's "Tracy Quinn Girlie Circus" you know, part girlie show part circus, huh? Anyway, here's the Tripod Twins, Nellie and Ellie. Yeah so my teacher told me if i was going to do this project i had to "raunch it up" so i figured, why not? I'm a bad graphic designer though....

Skunky!
Well, this is the latest piece i have been working on. It's the final member of Team Wilderness, Skunky. No, she doesn't smell. But she does drop poisonous gas bombs! fun, fun. fun. I had a lot of fun working on this piece, even though i had some set-backs. ( i have a really hard time with backgrounds. I need help with that, advice?) But yeah, once i figured out what i wanted to do with it. I really want to incorporate more of these watercolor/gouache washes in the background of my art.
anyway, i started this piece with a really really aweful costume sketch. anyway, I drew a crude sketch and then elaborated. The the most fun for me
Ok, so after, that i did this sort of cheesy city-scape in bright purple gouache. not a very good color, but that's ok, that's what photoshop is for. I adjusted it to the red-ish black-ish watercolor looking thing that it i now. And so a hero is born! ha...kidding <3

The Partridge...and partridges.
Finished my Partridge piece! yay, two more to go, the skunk and the cardinal. Yeah, so this is the Partridge, unnoficial leader of the super villain group "the Ladybirds" (i know i know, she doesn't look like a supervillain) Anyway, i agonized over the background for this one, and did several gouache paintings that didn't work out. It's been annoying because i don't have my scanner here at home, so it just makes things difficult.
I wanted her to have a cape, but it just wasn't working out. It just looked too weird. I can't draw capes...But yeah i normally use tria markers, but i used prismacolors on her hair, it has a lot of depth that i don't normally get with trias. i kind of like how it came out. I should use them more.
Originally it had a much more clumsy composition, the birds were supposed to be following her, but there was too much empty space. It just didn't look right, as you can see.
So now the birds are passing her by and she's making eye contact with the little girl bird (the now with the open eyes) so i think that works much better than how i had it before.
Anyay, i'm happy with how it turned out.
Happy Spring everyone <3

La Ardillita
I finished my newest piece for my current project, this one is of the Ardillita, luchador and all around strong-woman. (she's my favorite!) anyway this piece has been like a week long process. Trying to figure out what to do with her and all that business. Anyway, i'm happy with how it came out. So i figure i'll show my process and all that junk:
(from left to right) i start w/ a really rough sketch, then i refine it a little more, light table it a few times until i get it right, (in this case i used one of the light-tabled pieces that i messed up on to test out colors, you can see i'm trying out color combos on the side.) then after i've got a suitable light tabled piece (not pictured) i color it and i'm done.
The Background was done in marker and white guache put through some filters and stuff.
And the posters i made with textures from an old book that i found here
Yeah so that's the business.
(oh, and please excuse my 8th grade spanish!)
thanks!

Senior Project: 2nd Semester
For my senior project this semester (there's 2 of them, but i'll only get into 1 here) I'm doing a series of illustrations based on my own group of super heroines and their enemies. The heroines are all named after woodland animals, (haha, i know that's lame) but there's the Raccoon, La Ardillita (the Chipmunk) and the Skunk. The Bad Ladies are all names after birds, The Peacock, the Partridge and the Cardinal (no, not the catholic kind) Anyway, i've been having fun drawing them over the past few weeks, so i'll Post the 2 finished pieces from that project (of course, there's more to come!)
Anyhow, our lady, the Raccoon:
I've been working a lot without line lately, after recognizing that i'm a pretty crappy inker (it was one of those moments when i thought "I haven't gotten any better at this since i was 13" so i decided to nix the whole process completely) anyhow, it's been fun working without line, so thumbs up.
The second one in the series is the Peacock, that sexy super villain we all know and love (ha) both of these pieces were on display at my senior show on feb. 20
And lastly a sneak peek at my next piece which is still far from being finished:Thanks! <3

Hello
Hi, i thought it was high time that i start a blog seeing as i had my senior illustration show last weekend and the one question i kept getting was, "Do you have a blog?" So here i am. I hope to use this as a place to keep track of what i'm up to, and show my sketches/process. So i'm just testing the ropes right now, so to say.
Well anyway, my name is Tracy Lee Quinn and i'm an illustration senior at the Art Institute of Boston, graduating in the spring. So onto the art. Here's some of my recent work from the past months:
The following are two pieces from my last semester senior project, which was Pulp covers based in Appalachia. Although i did about 5 of them, these were the only 2 that i liked. ha. I'll be posting more of my senior project from this semester soon though!
Thanks!
